Project Proposal

My project proposal is creating a Tumblr to raise awareness of sexual violence such as rape and molestation. Not only do I want to spread awareness on these issues but I want to be able to post written Tumblr blogs about women or even men who faced sexual violence. I want to be able to write their story so more and more people feel comfortable to share their story. I want for others to read their stories and for those that feel that what a woman wears or what she does is the reason why she was raped. To stop blaming the victims for their actions or that they were “asking” for it. I want people to get well informed about sexual violence before they pass judgment. Not only do I want women to feel comfortable sharing their story, but I also want men to be able to share their story because it does also affect men. That’s where there is an issue people feel that there is no way a man can ever get raped, which is wrong to think. Men who have been raped feel that telling anyone that they were assault makes them seem weak or even if they do tell their story no one would believe them. Its seen like you’re a man, your strong how could you not have stopped it. Then there are certain people that think if a man was raped it’s not considered raped it was sex they wanted. I want men to be confident enough to share their story and for them to say that’s it okay to share it and they should not fear what people have to say.

Apart from sharing stories of both women and men I, of course, want to incorporate artwork pieces and artist/ influencers into the blog. There are many artwork pieces that share the story of someone sexual violence and what they were going through. Artwork can also feel like a great way to show rape without having to share a story. Like many say a picture speaks a thousand words and that goes with art. An artwork piece that I saw was an artist Jen Brockman. It’s called What were you wearing? It displayed articles of clothes that women were wearing when they were sexually assaulted. It makes a statement because women always get asked when they become assault what were you wearing. As if what they are wearing makes a difference into they being raped. Women get the hardest time about this issue and I’m glad someone made a display about this. Apart from the clothes being displayed next to it there are text posters. Each one says what they were wear and what happened to them. A lot of the article of clothes were from older women and an even younger girl like age six. I feel that it is necessary to spread awareness because of this issue that what you wear is the reason for you getting raped. How do you tell a six-year-old that the dress you wore was too sexy or that the shorts you wore oh you were asking for it. I want people to stop thinking that what a person does is the cause and effect. I also want people to stop thinking that it a taboo and that we shouldn’t talk about. I want people to talk about it want people to say that sexual violence is not okay. This is the propose of my project I want to encourage people to speak up and with my blog I hope that I can make it happen.

Freedom of speech with the YES-MAN

Within both books the Interventionist and Seeing Power support freedom of speech.

The Yes Men are a prime example of freedom of speech in way. Just what is the Yes Man

group? The Yes Man is an activist duo and has network of supporters. The Yes Man have

collaborated with other groups that have had similar interest. They have performed with large

scale hoaxes and raise awareness about political issues. They would often talk on shows which

their invited to and belief that corporations and government organizations would often act in

public. Props are used for the ruse.

Three projects that the Yes Man would do on are Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, and

WTO. I’ll briefly explain each project. The Dow Chemical project is about the Bhopal disaster

20th anniversary. Where the UCC tried to dissociate itself from the responsibility for the gas leak

of 3,800 people died while later half a million more with health defects from the chemical

exposure. The Yes Man created fake websites of the Dow Chemical. The next project in which

the Yes Man posed as ExxonMobil executives for the ExxonMobil project. Both delivered a long

study and a project called Vivioleum which is completely made up and would expand of fossil

fuel production. And says that the results of creating Vivioleum was obtained from the flesh of a

Exxon janitor who died from cleaning a toxic spill. Finally the WTO project.

The WTO is the most famous prank which corrected the WTO website. They first used

another fake website to then receive emails from real visitors and gave speeches encouraged

many corporations to buy votes citizens. They argued that it was a waste of money because of

other third world countries willingly to supply equivalent slaves. The Yes Man urged people to

listen to WTO instead of the facts. They unveiled a gold body suit and claimed it would increase

productivity and oversee workers can be tracked with implants inside the suit.

Anti-Bullying

Just think about a situation that include you and another person. However, another person picks on you every day nonstop, talking about you, and sometimes putting their hands on you. Bullying can be different than just a bigger kid picking on weaker kid.  Bullying can be place in many scenes like about some race, skin color, religion, how person look, how they talk, sizes or weight, sexuality, and online now.  Bullying is becoming a big issue in this country with many committing suicides everyday do to people not like them.

We would do something more about it because right now we have a big bully in our country name so called our president. Who want to deport mostly all immigrants out the country who didn’t commit a harmful crime and stopping them from coming in.  So, called president also talks about countries we our friends with. Person who represent our country is teaching other bullies it’s okay to treat people not right.
However, they’re our many people who be bystanders don’t stand against person just watch them just be bully or talked about. For myself I have been bystander to people around me who was doing the bullying to others. I didn’t understand, why I didn’t say anything towards about what they’re doing. But one day in High School I stand up for this kid was pick on our own football team.

So, close your eyes think about a time you had talk about some behind their back or in their face or online before. Do you feel like that consider bullying, maybe it is or not. Just remember bullying is always not harmful words or something we do to hurt them. It can be simple as one word to hurt person feelings about themselves.
One of the top activist for anit bullying today is Lizzie Velasquez. She impirsed many people about her story about being called names and talk about. One of the names she was called that hurt my heart was the “Ugliest Women in the World” what type person will call another person that. Lizzie is very strong women who ignore those who talk about here she is beautiful inside and outside.

Illegal immigrants are greatly affected by the United States laws and enforcement who are trying to keep them out of the United States so called our president. An example of law enforcement in the US that effects illegals immigrants lives is “Encarnacion Romero is a Guatemalan native and the mother of a young son. She was apprehended during a work site raid in 2007. Through a series of events out of Encarnacion’s control, her 6-month-old son was placed in the care of an American couple. Encarnacion did not receive counsel until after the custody hearing and judgment was entered. Custody was terminated, and she is still fighting to get her son back” (W. Cervantes, 2010). Americans believe that  illegal immigrants are coming to the United States to take jobs from Americans, but that’s not true of immigrants. Immigration is one of the biggest topics being debated in America today in politics and media.  Immigrants come to the United States for more than a job, it is to support their families, loved ones, and to provide a better life for themselves.  America was built by immigrants who came to this nation for freedom and rights, who had fought for this nation with their blood to have that freedom. America is the melting pot of culture; we have all types of race in America and we have the rights and freedom of the American dream.  America should welcome and support illegal immigrants to help illegal immigrants earn citizenship rights, to stop the separation of families, and because illegal immigrants help to improve the economy in the United States.

Freedom of Speech Final Paper

Within the United States, we have the Amendments in the Bill of Rights for each
individual in the United States. From first amendment Freedom of Religion, Speech, and the
Press, to the last amendment Undelegated Power kept by the States and the People is within the
US Constitution. I’ll be talking about the Freedom of Speech the first amendment. Not only how
important it is but how it is endangered by individuals that are abusing it and censoring others
views in violence. What is the definition of freedom of speech? The right which is guaranteed in
the first Amendment in the U.S. Constitution to express belief and ideas without unwarranted by
government restriction.

All over the United States alone there has been controversies between free speech & hate
speech. Hate speech has become such a huge discussion as of lately. What is the definition of
Hate Speech? A speech in which is expressed hatred towards a particular group of
people.(“Merriam-Webster dictionary”) Is Hate speech protected under freedom of speech? No
it is not protected by freedom of speech. Within an article in the New York Times explains a talk
with Natalie Shutler over a book by Howard Gullman. (“Free Speech-Hate Speech Trade-Off
The New York Times”.) Here’s another example: The huge NFL (National Football League) talk
is the not saluting the flag. It not protected by free speech. Thanks to the court case of West
Virginia Board of Education vs Barnette.

Then we have those that wish disavow anyone’s freedom of speech. Those that have been
doing this, is individuals in groups such as Antifa, BLM (Black Lives Matter). It’s not the whole
group but just a selected few that would go out of their way to try to prove with violence and
saying it is supported by free speech in the long run it’s not. Look at what happened within the
University of California Berkeley. Individuals like Ben Shapiro, and Milo Yiannopoulos have
been attacked cause the shutdown free speech week. During “Free Speech Week” a group of
students were planning it at the University but the mayor canceled it before it took place. (“The
Washington post article UC-Berkeley Free Speech Week canceled.”) Large amounts of damage
were the result of the protest.

Again it’s not the whole group it’s only a small group of individuals that would go out of
their way to censor someone else’s objective ideas and views. We have the same thing in the art
world. We have both Norman Rockwell and Shepard Fairey. Both have done heavy political art
pieces. Here’s a little back story on both of these artist. Norman Rockwell was born in New York
and was talented at a young age. He received his first commission at the age of 17. All of his
images were loved by the public but not by critics. Norman Rockwell’s reason for his art work is
because it was grounded of the world around him.

Then we have the latest topic of free speech. Theirs the whole NFL (National Football League) protest.  It’s where professional players did not stand for the national anthem. As employees to a company professional athletes don’t have the first amendment right to protest at games. The first amendment applies to a matter of law only government action takes place. It’s up to the Teams owners to take action against the players. Free speech isn’t just a legal guarantee it’s civil right. We don’t really care if our speech, or the speech of someone we want to listen to, is suppressed by the government as opposed to private action. What we care about is getting to speak and listen. That’s what the players have done in the NFL. They may not be protected by the first amendment, but its matter of free speech in general. NFL owners don’t have to respect the players protest but they know that many individuals that sees it would be upset if the protest was suppressed.

There a rule to support this. The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.

challenges female artist face in the art world.

The art world is a competitive market and it is run by men for centuries. When I think of art I  think of great male painters like Pablo Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci etc. women may think it is very difficult to be successful in the art world because of stereotypes. Women face challenges by not having connects in the art world. In this world, people perceive to think that men are better . Current groups in society today perceive women as weak, but that has been developed for many years. To understand today's view on society, you must understand the history when women had to fight to vote. We grown up in a male dominant society. Although society has begun to change, we still have a long way to go to see women be treated equal. Women face the same obstacles in their professional lives, whether it’s art or medicine or law.

The Guerrilla Girls, are a  group of feminist activist artists, theses females  wear gorilla mask in public and use politics, art, film, and pop culture. The guerrilla girls states” We believe in an intersectional feminism that fights discrimination and supports human rights for all people and all genders.” Even in today's work force women get paid less than their male counterparts. Female artist in the art world may find it difficult to break into a market that is dominantly run by men. Women face lack of confidence because, they cannot compete with the standard of work out there.  Are women less important to our society than men? Female artist had to hide their identity in the old days, because if you were a female you would not be published. As of today, it should be success when women at all levels can achieve economic parity with male artists.

How many people do you know are openly gay?  Sure, in today's society, it is now more acceptable to be openly gay, but how many people do you know are happy with it.  Personally, it should be a topic of all rights to be protected.  Other than the black lives matter movement, the LGBTQ community have been struggling to keep their rights protected as well.  As a straight female, people often question me as to why I have such strong emotions about the LGBTQ community, and it's because many of the people I live the most are involved.  There should be way more movements into it then there are now.
Some of my closest friends and family members just so happen to be a part of the LGBTQ community.  They have told me stories about things that have happened to them because they are openly gay and how it has affected them and their personality.  For one thing that people should take a look into is using the correct pronouns.  One thing people do not keep in mind is that many people are gender neutral.  This means the person is comfortable with using pronouns from both genders.  It is ok to talk to them using she/her and he/him pronouns. As for trans people, they prefer to use non-binary pronouns; so yes, a person can have both male and female parts, but its respectful to call them by the pronouns they prefer. Recently Playboy released their first trans playmate and the feedback and reactions she got from the public were horrific, which is what made me choose this as my topic. When it comes to biology, we are all born with the sex male or female, but who has the right to say what gender we are.
Another reason I support the LGBTQ community is because there are a lot of ways to express yourself artistically.  Drag just so happens to be a form of art.  Many people think that because a man likes doing drag then he wants to be a woman, and that isn't the case at all. Some people are just able to be themselves and express emotion through drag.
One idea I was thinking of doing was collecting different stories of people apart of the LGBTQ community. Whether it's their coming out story, or just an interesting story they had happen to them, and somehow paint what they said on a pride flag.  I think it will be very inspirational for people who haven't come out yet to look at while walking past it.

Women V. Sports

Women who play intensive sports do not get the equal right as men do. Women who play famous sports like soccer and basketball aren’t paid the same as the men and aren’t supportered as the same. What i mean by that is they don’t have same amount of fans and don’t have the same amount of funds as men. However, women who do have great sponsors are most likely to be dressed down. Sports like gymnastics, beach volleyball, and now LFL they are showing more skin then the uniform itself. Women shouldn’t be equaled with men by showing their bodies. My idea is to have talented women who play the short just as good as men do wear appropriate uniforms and have the same sponsors and fans as major leagues of any team. Women do not have to level down to be a part of something big, especially with great talent they have when it comes to sports.
Topic

My project is gender equality and how the genders are treated differently.  Men and women are treated and looked at differently when in the same situation or position, like for example women gets a lower pay than men even if they do the same thing.  Some things that a female does are looked down on or results in them being bashed, talked about negatively and have their name just dragged through the dirt, but if a male was to do those things he may be praised for it even be called "the man" and a female would be called "Hoe", "dirty" and just talked about.  Gender equality is a problem everywhere in some countries a woman can barely get a good education, or they might not have the ability to vote in their country.  Here in America a woman is brought down and isn't represented and noticed as much as a male and as many in things as males.  As a male we get opportunities that females don’t get as often even when they probably have the same abilities as each other.  Automatically males are looked at as the stronger and more fit out of the two, which is not always the case females have their arears where they are great and better than males but they don’t get as much praise as they should.  Just like how businesses and money make the world go round BOTH man and woman help those businesses to make the money to make the word go round.  My project is on gender equality, about how the genders should be equal on all levels not just one or two.  Both should have their voice heard, males and females of ALL races and from ALL places, both should have equal representation in their place of work, either that be in museums not just being in the art and being the eye grabber but as one of the artist or ones to find something worth putting in a museum, the office, movies not just a character and having the main role but a writer or whatever.  With my project I want to make post on social media either on Tumbr, Twitter, Instagram, ect, quotes about how there's still a difference in the gender roles and how unequal the roles are between male and female.  Not only do I want to just post a few quotes on how the genders aren't equal, but also quotes to uplift and encourage whoever needs it (males, females, and everything in-between, black, white and everything in-between).  I hope that when I make these post that people join the movement and repost it and add their own views, opinions and possible respond to the quote or message, or leave their own quote or message.

Theses are the resources that I have looked at so far

Victor Rezabala
Mid Term – Project Proposal
Prof. Cacoilo

In some regards, things are sometimes in fact too good to be true. Looking back at the subprime mortgage crisis which began late 2006, thousands of people could purchase a home for the first time. This was possible with easier mortgage approval ratings and an influx of real estate inventory. Everyone was either buying, selling, or building property with the immediate idea that real estate could never go down in value. The ability to refinance your home quicker and easier was a tool used to continue the inventory of mortgage loans in circulation which was used to bundle mortgage backed securities. It all came crashing down when property values began to decrease and the demand from global inventors for these securities evaporated. Thus, leading America into a massive recession leading to foreclosures and employment layoffs. Economist are scurrying to locate the next bubble, in hopes of containing it and haltinganother economic downfall. The next area of concern for many lays within the future of America, both fugitively and literally.
Student loan debt has become the largest amount of debt throughout the country, surpassing credit card debt. According to numerous websites and studies conducted by Forbes, USA today, and studentloan.net, the amount of debt held by students has topped $1.4 trillion. The average student in the graduating class of 2016 held on average $37,156 in student loan debt. Of course, the American dream portrays the image that a college graduate makes more money, will achieve more in life and surpass his peers. This concept later turns into a business plan and the goal of higher education has become strictly a new business model to make some individuals very wealthy. The business concept of For-Profit colleges is one that has been duplicated, modified, and shows a proven track record of making people millionaires.
John Sperling is an intelligent business man, so much so that he viewed the current traditional college model and saw imperfections. He knew he could make a school that was easier, and geared more towards a student’s interest versus a student taking required courses to graduate. John would create University of Phoenix, a subsidiary of Apollo Global Management which happens to be a private equity firm. The concept of the college took off offering students easier admission rates and online courses. While it offered students easier access to college programs and a shorter time line to graduate, it was almost triple the cost compared to an in-state public university. With actual data supporting John’s business concept, the idea of for-profit colleges took off and the number of these colleges would begin to open and grow at an alarming rate. History shows us that where there is money to be made, business man will maximize it with little concern on the effects of other people.

Abortion, Contraceptives , Activists , and Artists.

I've been thinking about the perfect topic to present and the best thing that I could come up with is the topic of abortion and contracepetives . Abortion and contraceptives has been topic of conversations for many years and being that I am for pro choice, I think that there is so much I can speak about given that there are so many resources and situations through politics, social media, through activists, artists and just society as a whole. One place that I went to search through for information was social media. Social media is the best place to find artists and activists who are Pro life and Pro choice. I have come across about 4 or 5 artist recently who have become a big part of my project. These individuals have incredible paintings in regards to being Pro Life and Pro Choice. I want to write a description of each painting , my view on it and a out side view from another individual. I want to do the same thing when it comes to Activists. Activist heavily influence movements by protesting in well known areas and they are the perfect fit for my project .

I am creating a magazine that was highly influenced by The Guerrilla Girls. What inspired me by their book was how it was based like a fun magazine with different shapes, colors and fonts.  I run a all girl group via Facebook and all of these wonderful women have agreed to help me with my project itself. In the end of the Guerrilla Girls book they have a love hate mail page  which also inspired me to create a similar page in which has to do about theses women experiences with abortion/contraceptives and those who are pro life and why they feel it may be wrong. I also will be including a section of my magazine with my view on being pro life as well. A lot of the information that I will be collecting out side of activists and artist from google, instagram etc will be coming from real life women and their experiences. I feel like me turning to social media was the greatest thing i could ever do just for getting stories, news and artists as well as promoting my magazine for everyone to read.

This is my first project that I'm actually excited to do for the simple fact that I can be super creative about everything. I hope you enjoy whats to come in the near future!

Gun Violence Magazine

Gun Violence Magazine

Gun control in the United States has been a debatable issue for many years. This issue is getting even worse as time passes. Aside from the many mass shootings that have recently occurred, there is also gun violence on a smaller scale. These smaller scaled tragedies add up and make up a large portion of the fatality rate caused by gun violence. Some pros to enacting more gun control laws include the Second Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns, more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths, high-capacity magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into mass murder, and guns are rarely used in self-defense. Some arguments against those pros include the Second Amendment of the US Constitution protects individual gun ownership, gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership deters crime, gun control laws infringe upon the right to self-defense and deny people a sense of safety, and gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking laws. Overall, those who are for enacting stricter laws on gun use believe the stricter laws will decrease the rate of deaths by guns and those who are against enacting stricter laws believe the laws will not stop those from gaining access and causing harm.

I am for enacting stricter laws on gun control. I believe that by enacting stricter laws on gun use you can stop some people from harming others, and that is enough. If you make it harder to gain access to guns then you will certainly be able to stop a tragedy from happening, even if it isn’t as big as a mass shooting. Another benefit of enacting stricter laws, aside from lowering the homicide rate, is lowering the suicide rate. The suicide rate by use of a gun can also account for the high number of deaths by guns. There are also accidental deaths caused by the presence of guns. A child can get access to a gun and accidentally fire it. These instances could be lowered by stricter laws.
It is no surprise that the United States has the most deaths caused by gun violence. Just this year there have been 273 mass shootings in the US so far in 2017, according to the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive. The same resource found that more than 11,650 people have died from gun-related violence so far this year and more than 23,500 others were injured. The deadliest mass shooting in modern US history just occurred last month. In Las Vegas, Nevada, a gunman killed at least 59 people and injured at least 527 others at a festival. It has become normal to hear about these tragic mass shootings, especially this year.
For my final semester project I would like to create a magazine that advertises and informs about everything that has to do with guns. The United States is not strict about gun use and I feel like it would be interesting to treat guns as if it were a car or a pair of shoes, because that is how it is treated. My project will question that if the same methods to sell clothing were used to sell guns would there still be a consumer. It will also question if the consumer understands the everyday rate of deaths because of gun violence would they still purchase. Many people only think about mass shootings and think that people will kill regardless but there are accidental deaths because of the presence of a gun. In the magazine I would include advertisements showcasing guns. On another page I could include the actual statistics of gun violence. I could also include a timeline of everyday deaths by the use of guns.
