The Artist I Have chose is Distort.
The art work which he has done was the Shield of Justice.
This was made between the years of 2016-2017. The medium is enamel and an engraving
on a car hood. (“Work
that is too deeply locked into a language of aesthetics is dismissed as too
referential, too elusive, and too inaccessible to a general audience by those whose
primary concerns are activism, while art that is prescriptive is too cliched and banal
for audience whose primary concerns are art.” Seeing Power Art and Activism in the 21st
century pg 34). The
subject is of the 2 individuals standing in the
background. safe
and stable environment, of the violence and chaos in the world that it is being
surrounding. The message is about the change of freedom to individuals. It is about
exploring the space and becoming more aware of the context of violence and chaos in
the world. The artists address socio-political subjects in the Shield of Justice. They
make it make it is based on an education, which it provides multiple meanings within an
artwork. It brings attention of these important issues that may have been forgotten
and not talked about. It touches upon the issues following the image in a detailed
way to draw attention. (“An artwork easily opens to interpretation provides
a certain freedom from instrumentalization-from an agenda-and allows a viewer to
experience speculation and consideration.”Seeing
Power Art and Activism in
the 21st century pg 34). Artwork has sections in it which
allows us to form hypotheses
in their meaning and prompts conversation about important issues. (“The
more important lesson is simply that the more one knows about art, the more
radically different one’s approach is to art, compared with that of the general viewer.” Seeing
Power Art and Activism in the 21st century pg 39.) The exhibition touch upon issues of art, power and activism by providing the use of interesting materials and the power of the design.
