Social media has its way of grasping somebody's attention. Social media can either break or make a connection between one person and another. I feel like on twitter I see posts different people put up, of things I would normally do. There is this connection and this feeling of relief whenever I see somebody post something that is accurate to my own life or thoughts. It makes me feel like I am not the only one feeling or thinking a certain way. It makes me feel somewhat normal. There are even memes (a humorous image, video, or piece of text) people create that I totaly can relate to. I can definietly agree to say that a whole lot of our common experiences involve shared mass media images, events, and stories with others.
The media covers activists, acts of resistance, and protest. Media could definietly help support social movements, but it can also try to cover activists. With what is going on today with our president (not my president), and him having a major problem with illegal immigrants, I try my best to be an activist every day through social media. The media is constantly posting how much trump wants these innocent, hardworking people out of America. He has no mercy for them and does not even try to sympathize for those who are here working their butt off to give their family a better life. I, as a US citizen, am an advocate for those who feel have no voice, or are voiceless.
I come from an immigrant family, so I try my best to speak out and about through images, words, and actions. Being active, and keeping an active movement can help spread awareness, can help educate those who aren't too familiar with the topic, and can really help make these people feel safer. I believe that as a US citizen it is my responsibility to stand up for what I believe in, and to help be an advocate for everyone out there whose voices are silenced through fear and threats. Nobody should ever feel like they don't belong in an environment where they grew up in or built their future or family in... It is just devastating..
