Through the past couple of years, social media has become an outlet for the society to look in on different situation's happening around the world.  Not many people, millennials in particular have found the interest in watching the news, but when a serious situation is posted on social media, it sparks them instantly. As an African American woman in this society I know first-hand hat social media is the outlet to the real world especially with everything going on in our world today.
Never in my life did I think I would ever have to live in a world where racism still exists.  unfortunately, every time I go on my phone and open an app, I see someone making racist remarks, or even someone of a minority being beaten to death for just being alive.  I think the internet is the greatest way to help change the world only because for some reason the internet sparks anger in people.  I feel like in the past during the civil rights movement for example, people were angry yes, but there wasn’t as much growth in people willing to do something because they were scared, and there were laws preventing them to do so.  Now that we have social media, and are able to move freely among our own country, millennials are doing their best to let each other that this is not ok or in other words encouraging each other to "Stay woke".
With us having the president we have, and him being famous before even becoming the president, he is all over social media.  Our president is constantly on twitter, and people ae not afraid to fire back at him and respond to his obnoxious tweets.  When the recent incident happened of racists crashed o protest to take down a confederate flag, he was nowhere to b found.  Innocent people were being hurt while racists did whatever they wanted.
It was hard to see everything that was happening, but it was amazing to see how quickly everyone on social media took response to it.  People were constantly tweeting Donald Trump asking him his thoughts on the situation and it took him hours to respond.  I think the internet and social media apps are an amazing way to keep this country informed, as well as keeping us together as a nation.
